We have designed a range of workshops, all aimed at stimulating memories and encouraging reminiscence among those who have memory issues, Alzheimers or other types of dementia. We have gained a positive reputation over the last few years, for delivering supportive sessions to a range of adults in a consistent and affirmative manner and we have received feedback from staff within these establishments which lead us to believe that our workshops have a positive impact in the area of early intervention and prevention with regards to memory issues.
Charlies Time to Talk workshops are about letting participants dictate the topics whilst facilitating the reminiscence that comes from the conversations. Workshops can cover several to topics in one session and other sessions may concentrate on just a few topics. It is all driven by the participants and the threads they choose to follow.
Charlies Hear to Listen workshops use musical memories as the basis for reminiscence. The group listen to old recordings of radio shows that were popular when they were younger or watch DVD’s of TV shows from the past. These trigger conversations and memories with participants about a range of things from fashion trends to teenage antics and a host of things in between.
Charlies Tasty Bites use recipes from yester-year to stimulate memories of treats and hearty meals associated with past times from participant’s childhood, adolescence and early adulthood. The smells and tastes combine to spark memories and recognition as well as conversation for reminiscence.
Charlies Seated Strictly workshop tends to be a favourite of the ladies. The workshop is loosely themed around the ideas of “Strictly Come Dancing” but no-one leaves their seat. It is a little different in that a facilitator encourages participants to move in time with the music and may lead on this aspect. However, the reminiscence about the music, where they experienced similar sounds in the past, how it makes participants feel etc is all invoked by participants and they get the added bonus of doing some gentle physical exercise at the same time..
